Do not overload Zanzibar

Stone Town, spice farms and marine excursions are worthwhile, but schedule free beach days too. Moving hotels every night defeats the point of a beach extension.

Choose the coast area carefully

Nungwi and Kendwa have a different feel from Paje and Jambiani. Tides, nightlife, water sports and the type of hotel you prefer should guide the choice.

Protect the transition day

The most common planning mistake is assuming that the final safari game drive and a Zanzibar beach afternoon can happen without compromise. Flight schedules, airstrip check-in and road time can consume much of the day. Treat the transfer as part of the itinerary and choose flights that avoid unnecessary backtracking.

How many nights on the island?

Three nights can provide a useful beach finish, while four to six nights allow Stone Town, an excursion and genuine downtime without packing every morning. Travellers coming directly from Kilimanjaro often value a slower island schedule than those arriving from a short safari.

North-coast areas are popular for swimming and sunsets, while the east coast has a stronger tidal character and is well known for kitesurfing and long beaches. The best base depends on what you want to do between beach hours.
