Day by day itinerary

1

Rongai Gate to Simba Camp

Approach Kilimanjaro from the quieter northern side, complete registration and begin through forest and heather toward Simba Camp. The gradient is moderate, making this a calm first stage for settling into the mountain routine.

2

Simba to Second Cave

Continue across open heath toward Second Cave, gaining altitude at a measured rate. Northern views toward Kenya can be excellent in clear weather. Your guide keeps the day deliberately controlled to support acclimatisation.

3

Second Cave to Kikelewa Camp

Continue across open heath toward Second Cave, gaining altitude at a measured rate. Northern views toward Kenya can be excellent in clear weather. Your guide keeps the day deliberately controlled to support acclimatisation.

4

Kikelewa to Mawenzi Tarn

Traverse toward Kikelewa through increasingly alpine terrain beneath Mawenzi. The route feels more remote here, and the gradual gain allows time to observe how the group is adapting to altitude.

5

Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut

Climb to Mawenzi Tarn beneath the dramatic spires of Mawenzi. The afternoon is reserved for recovery and, where appropriate, a short acclimatisation walk before returning to camp.

6

Kibo to Uhuru Peak then Horombo Hut

Start the summit climb from Kibo Hut during the night, ascending the steep volcanic slope toward Gilman’s Point and continuing around the crater rim to Uhuru Peak if conditions and health allow. Descend to Kibo, then continue much lower to Horombo for rest.

7

Horombo to Marangu Gate

Descend from Horombo through moorland and forest to Marangu Gate. Complete the park exit formalities and certificate process before the road transfer back to Moshi.
